Jersey Presentation

Rob Power, John Queally, Paddy Lyons and Con Murphy with our future stars

We presented the boys from U15 to Minor with a Dunhill training jersey. Thanks to our club Trustee's Rob Power, John Queally, Paddy Lyons and Con Murphy for presenting the tops to the lads. Also big thanks to our sponsors.

Too many to list out!

It was a wonderful morning at the school as Dunhill GAA officials, trustees, and past pupils—many of whom are current or former Dunhill GAA players—visited to present each child with a free Dunhill GAA jersey.

The jerseys were generously sponsored through a combined effort by the Dunhill GAA Club and several individual supporters. Thank to you them all.

The Masters & Waterford

Mark Nugent (front row, far right) & Jim Halley (back row, third from the left)

Well done to Mark Nugent (Dunhill) and Jim Halley (Fenor) on their involvement with the Waterford Masters football team, who opened their 2025 campaign on Saturday against Laois in Graigecullen, Carlow. Mark is also serving as player-manager, leading a panel of seasoned and new players from across the county. Best of luck for their next fixture at home to Wicklow on Saturday, June 7th at 2 PM in Kill.

Best of luck to all our players who represent Waterford in all ages this year.

Dunhill Squash Club

Roisin Kirwan and Niamh Kirwan

Dunhill Squash Club has been in existence for more than 55 years, located behind the Community Hall. We cater for members from 7 years of age to 80 years. We run four club leagues a year, kindly sponsored by Haven Pharmacy Tramore, Jack Molloy Butchers, Tom Murphy Car Sales, and Dawn International. We host a number of junior and senior competitions throughout the year. A number of our players take part in junior and senior competitions in Munster and all around Ireland.

Congratulations to Dylan Dunphy and his teammates on their 1st place win in Boys U11 at the recent Interprovincials, and to Conor Murphy and team on 2nd place in Boys U15. Well done to all our finalists in the recent Tom Murphy Car Sales League. Congratulations to Roisin and Niamh Kirwan on winning their groups in the Highfield Ladies One-Day Tournament in Cork.

Dunhill entered a team in the Munster Leagues in Division 2 and 3 for the first time in years. Congratulations to the Division 3 team on winning the league, beating Killenaule Squash Club in the final.

If anyone is interested in trying out squash, please email: [email protected]

Fenor GAA

Fenor hurlers drew with St Mary’s East in a County League fixture at William Flynn Park last Tuesday evening. At the end of what was a poor game even by junior standards, we needed an injury-time equaliser from David Cantwell to take a point, though that won’t be enough to make the final.

On a clammy night, when Fenor’s infamous midges dominated, Sean Mackey hit seven quality points from play, while fellow teenagers Fintan Walsh and Dylan Farrell showed well. Full-back Richie Cullinane was one of the few other home players at their best.
Fenor scorers: Sean Mackey (0-7), Cian Rellis (0-4, 3f), Shane Rellis (0-4, 3f), Dylan Farrell (0-1), James Hayden (0-1).

On Friday, while scoring 1-15, the concession of goals saw our footballers beaten by Tramore in our last game of the Division 3 series, though the teams will meet again in the League final in a few weeks (date and venue TBC). The result was beyond reach at half-time, but the lads rallied well in the second period.
Our scorers were Sean Mackey (1-7; pen, 0-4f), Ollie Buck, Shane Doyle, Fintan Walsh, John Heffernan, Ollie St John – all with a point apiece – while Cian Rellis kicked a two-pointer from a free and one from play.

A note of thanks to Maria O'Neill (Beresford) for doing a very professional job patching up our captain James Hayden, who sustained a nasty facial injury during the above hurling match. (Jamie O'Keeffe)

BBQ Thank Yous - James Hayden & Derek Farrell.

On the May bank holiday weekend, Fenor captain James Hayden received a tongue-in-cheek memento recognising his status as the first player to kick a competitive two-pointer for Fenor in a competitive game, following his brace against Ardmore. With the glassware sourced by football manager Mick Murphy, selector Derek Farrell presented the 2-pint boot at a barbecue for players & partners in Mother McHughs.

Our thanks to John Conor and Anne Marie for supplying the main menu, to grill master Chris for doing the cooking, and to Hannah who played a blinder in making sure everything ran smoothly. And our appreciation as always to Sean for accommodating us... including our excellent taste in music!

“Long” Paddy Sullivan with Mary Ormond, Post Office, and Mother McHugh, right, enjoying each other’s company in Fenor Pub (then Mahonys) back in the 1970s. From Kilsheelan, postmistress Mary and her sister Kathy were lovely, friendly ladies and had a little shop as well, selling bread, sweets, ice-cream, pencils, firelighters, and all sorts in between — not forgetting the Sunday papers after Mass. (Photo: Mary Finn)

On Sunday 10th August the Anne Valley Trail will host a Plein Aer Art Competition in association with Tramore Plein Arts group. The Competition is open to 50 artists who will paint along the Anne valley trail throughout the day. Later the artwork will be judged and available to buy at the end of the day. More details to follow nearer the date.

Dunhill Tidy Towns

(Photo: Martin Sheehan)

The wall running through the village was badly damaged. It looks as if a vehicle may have hit it. The automatic watering system for the wall flowers and the hanging baskets runs along the wall and was also damaged. Fortunately, it was spotted quickly by a Tidy Towns member and repaired before loss of water to the plants during the present dry spell.

If you ever notice any issues with the walls that may impact the watering system, please contact a member of Tidy Towns.

Large decorative rocks were put in place on the Ballinageeragh bend. Many thanks to Ned Morrissey, who allowed us to remove them from his land.

We are also very, very thankful to McCarthy's Value, who have offered to sponsor four tonnes of decorative stones for the bend.

Work is in progress to clear the vegetation and expose the stone on the wall running from the village to the Ann Valley. Not all vegetation can be removed, as this may damage the wall if the soil is exposed to winter rains.

(Photo: Martin Sheehan)

We are considering a small plaque for the milk churns we bought and displayed in the village—just a small bit of history to give them context. If you have any anecdotes, stories, or—best of all—pictures, please contact Martin Sheehan.

As ever, we are always looking for new members. No commitment required—we will just add you to our WhatsApp group and you can engage as you wish, or simply be on the circulation list for info on what is happening.
