Paddy Lyons

Paddy Lyons, Rest In Peace
The funeral cortege of Paddy Lyons summed up everything about the man.
Paddy came out of Ardnahoe lane one final time accompanied by his cherished family and close friends.
His coffin was met by Dunhill GAA members and carried from the gates of the Centre where Paddy was always on hand to help.
Past the committee room in which he fundraised, worked and argued his points.
The playing pitches which he took pride in, played on, coached on and refereed on.
The dressing room in which he mentored.
The field gate turnstyles which he manned.
The Enterprise Park which he contributed to.
As the hearse made its way down Ballyphilip he was flanked by his clubmates and friends dressed in his beloved red, black and yellow.
In the distance could be seen Dunhill Hall, where he performed in front of Jacqueline Kennedy.
Dunhill Squash Club, which he founded and proudly chaired.
Cois Cille which he helped build.
Through the village he helped work on.
Past his high stool in Harney's and up the chapel yard to Dunhill Church, his final place of rest.
Our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
He was our president, our friend, 'a gentleman and a legend'.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Two Generations

Jack & PJ McGrath
What a clubman, PJ came to our rescue and played for our junior team. Great to see him playing alongside his son Jack in our win over Tramore.

Consistently Inconsistent Running

Conor, Michelle, Jennifer, Mary, Nuala, David J , Hilary, Joanne, Aoife, Angela, Julie and Jenny
Consistently Inconsistent – Dunhill’s Friendly Running Group!
What began as a Couch to 5K initiative last October – thanks to the Dunhill GAA Healthy Club subcommittee – has grown into something much more lasting and special. Our group, proudly (and very appropriately!) named Consistently Inconsistent, is still going strong nearly a year later due to popular demand.
We’ve met wonderful people, had plenty of laughs, and gotten fitter together. Originally based at the Dunhill GAA track, we’ve recently switched things up for summer and now meet at the beautiful Anne Valley Walk, where we take on an easy 5K at a comfortable pace – especially helpful in the heat!
Whether you're a total beginner or just looking for a supportive group to run with, you’re very welcome to join us. It’s relaxed, inclusive, and fun – no pressure, just movement and good company.
Organised by Michelle, Hilary, and Julie, Consistently Inconsistent is open to all. Come along, say hi, and see what we’re about!

Continued best wishes to Dunhill’s Mark Nugent along with Fenor’s Jim Halley and Michael O Brien who helped Waterford book their place in the knockout stages of the 2025 All-Ireland Masters Football Championship with an emphatic 4-19 to 0-10 win over Kildare at St Saviours GAA grounds in Ballybeg.
Best of luck them against London in their final group game this Saturday in Tir Chonaill Gaels grounds in Greenford, West London.

Congruatulations to Ned Moore who represented Waterford this year in Under 16 Football.

Anne Valley 5-Mile Challenge

A Cheque Presentation with a Difference
We welcomed Junior, along with Joe Daly and his Waterford Hot Air Balloon, to Dunhill on Thursday night last to pass on the proceeds of our recent 5-mile race in Dunhill.
This year’s Anne Valley 5M was a huge success, and with great support from the local running community and some fantastic sponsorship, we were delighted to be able to pass on the fantastic sum of €4,500 to Junior’s For Junior’s.
We would like to thank our sponsors: Alfie Hale Sports, Comerford Foley, Harneys, Dunphys of Annestown, and the Friends of Dunhill Community Hall for making our event such a huge success.
We would especially like to thank Joe for putting on a spectacular show in Dunhill, with a big crowd out on the green in Cois Cille for the presentation and to watch the hot air balloon take off and head off over Dunhill to Mount Congreve.
We’re looking forward to next year already!
Boatstrand Swimming

Fenor GAA
Paddy Lyons RIP
All associated with Fenor GAA offer our deepest sympathies to the family, loved ones and many friends of the late Paddy Lyons, Ardnahoe, Dunhill, a gentleman whose immense contribution to his club, parish and East Waterford GAA has spanned generations. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
Stunner At 70

Kevin Burns celebrating his 70th with his five daughters
A very happy 70th birthday was celebrated by Kevin Burns, Annestown, on July 9th.
These pictures are from a party organised by family and friends in Mother McHugh’s ahead of his milestone.
Thanks to everyone who came along on the evening and those who have continued the toast since, including his nearest and dearest on the day itself.
Glad you had a ball, Kevin (and Marian!), and sincere thanks from Fenor for all your work for the GAA club, community and county over so many years.
Trophy On Tour

Waterford’s minor hurling heroes — Cillian Brennan, James Comerford (captain), Cormac Spain and Gearoid O’Shea with Ann O’Neill. Inset: Ann with her son Tom with two of her grandchildren, Tommy Farrell and Jake O’Neill.
Four of Waterford’s minor hurling heroes — Cillian Brennan, James Comerford (captain), Cormac Spain and Gearoid O’Shea — with “Mrs Fenor GAA”, Ann O’Neill, as the All-Ireland Cup visited the Na Gaeil Juvenile GAA Club Waterford Kelloggs Cúl Camps at William Flynn Park the Tuesday after carrying the spoils of victory across the Suir.
Inset: Ardent Déise supporter and Fenor Honorary Life Member Ann, who has been washing jerseys and much more besides since the late seventies, and her son Tom (former player and perennial First Aid/Kitman with our adult teams) holding the trophy with two of her grandchildren, Tommy Farrell and Jake O’Neill.
Thanks so much to the four lads for giving up their time during a hectic week. What brilliant ambassadors they and their fellow panellists (and management/backroom team) are for the county.
Hurling Report

Flying Hurley (Photo: Jamie O’Keeffe)
A hurley on the loose in this action shot from our most recent Junior-A Hurling Championship tie in which Fenor overcame Ballydurn in near-tropical conditions at St Saviour’s GAA grounds.
We'd plenty of good individual displays over the hour, with a nice spread of scores among the 3-18 we put on the board (David Cantwell, Sean Mackey and Ollie St John with well-taken goals, while Dylan Farrell hit three points from play), but heads-up hurling and work-rate were the foundations.
Having edged past St Mary’s East at Dunhill in the opening round a fortnight earlier (2-11 to 2-8; Niall Power and Canty with the goals), we play a seasoned St Saviour’s unit in our final group game in Butlerstown this Saturday, July 26. (Jamie O’Keeffe)
Late Friend Of Fenor

The Englishbys & Mrs Mary McHugh (far left)
Mother McHugh’s was very saddened to learn of the recent passing of Finian Englishby in Co. Meath.
The Englishbys — Mary, Finian and their 11 children — came to Fenor camping in the late seventies (pictured) and made many firm friends here. A great sporting, GAA and especially hurling man with the Wolfe Tones Club among others, Finian worked as a civil engineer, whose last project before retiring was the redevelopment of O’Moore Park in Portlaoise.
He was a hugely respected administrator in the Royal County for many years.
Also in this group photo are “Mother” herself, the late Mrs Mary McHugh, grandmother of publican Sean O'Mahony, and Mossie Sullivan, The Cottage, Fenor, far left. Members of the since-expanded Englishby clan have visited the village from time to time in more recent years.
Rest in peace, Finian. Our sincere condolences to Mary, their five sons and six daughters. A fine legacy.

🎉 Congratulations to the St Anne’s U12A Team! 🎉
A huge well done to our amazing U12A girls who were crowned U12A Cup Champions on Saturday, July 19th! This victory marks a fantastic double after their U12D title win last year – an incredible achievement for this talented team!
In a thrilling final, the girls faced off against De La Salle in an epic encounter. Having previously lost to De La Salle twice, the girls showed immense resilience and determination to overturn the odds.
All 14 girls on the panel played with incredible skill, spirit, and teamwork – a true testament to their hard work and dedication throughout the season.

The day was made even more special as Joint Captains Orla and Ella were presented with the Jean O’Loughlin Memorial Cup, in memory of former St Anne’s player. The cup was presented by Jean’s mother, Pauline, and cousin, Megan – a touching moment that brought meaning and pride to the entire occasion. To honour Jean, the team wore green ribbons on the day.
💚 The support from the sidelines was phenomenal – a heartfelt thank you to all who came out to cheer the team on!
To top off the celebrations, the girls enjoyed a well-earned meal in Harney’s, filled the cup with ice cream, and tucked in for a delicious treat!
🍦🏆 A day to remember – well done, girls! We are so proud of you all.

Anne Valley

Pilates In The Anne Va(Photo: Mary Finn)
The Anne Valley Trail
The Anne Valley, in association with Dunhill National School, undertook a project which sought to engage the students with the biodiversity that the Anne Valley has to offer and, in turn, help them become more aware of the flora and fauna that exist all around them.
The project targeted the First and Second Classes with a worksheet that they had to complete while walking along the Anne Valley, and this was followed up by a booklet that they designed by themselves based on their own experience of the Valley.
The Fifth and Sixth Classes also took part in the project. Denis Cullen introduced them to the biodiversity of the area, including the river and ponds. They too completed quite impressive brochures, giving their own individual interpretation of the Valley. Prizes were presented to this group for their outstanding work.
1st Prize: Lily Harney
2nd Prize: Cian O’Brien
3rd Prize: Aideen Gray
The 5th and 6th Year brochures will be displayed on the Anne Valley notice board over the next few weeks.

Dunhill Tidy Towns

New Dunhill Heritage Board (Photo: Martin Sheehan)
The long-awaited Dunhill Heritage Board has been erected. We applied in 2023 to Heritage Ireland for a grant for the board but were not successful. In 2024, we spoke to Waterford Council Heritage, who agreed to supply the board. Our role was to nominate the 10 Points of Interest and accompanying short detail on each point. We also provided €200 to slightly embellish the original board. The Council have agreed that we can move the existing directional signage to give a better view of the Heritage Board from a number of directions.
For some reason, the graphics for the board ended up in France with some other boards the Council were working on—thus the delay in receiving it.
Many thanks to Bernadette Guest, Waterford Council Heritage Officer, for her great support.
As ever, if anybody would like to help out the Tidy Towns group—even an hour a month—contact Martin at 📞 087 699 2980.

Videos Of The Week
Best pitch invasion ever! It was lovely to see children bringing their hurleys and getting the chance to puck around on the pitch at half-time of the Minor Hurling All-Ireland in Semple Stadium Thurles, where Waterford had a memorable win over Clare. The day will live long in their memory.
Charlie Comerford, a 13-year-old from Dunhill had the night of his life when he was invited on stage by Danny O’Donoghue, frontman of his favourite band, The Script, during their sold-out show at Thomond Park in Limerick.
With 28,000 fans in attendance, Charlie said he “couldn’t believe his luck” to be chosen, describing the experience as “a dream come true.” He sang a duet with the band and even played the final note on O’Donoghue’s piano.
His proud mother, Laura Firth, called the night “unreal,” saying Charlie, a passionate music lover, “just got on with it” despite the massive crowd.
May this magical moment be just the beginning of Charlie’s musical journey.
